Reaktor Kick Generator will make you not to worry anymore about your kick drum. MIDI Grid is a generative MIDI sequencer that can create evolving patterns in a chosen key and scale. MIDI Grid will work with any synth that accepts MIDI input. Requires Reaktor 6. Each square in the grid can have one of three basic types: dead, alive, or buffer. These should make up the majority of the grid. Alive squares move in a direction, and they appear as an arrow pointing in that direction on the interface.

Whenever they run into the edge of the grid, another alive square, or a buffer square, they change direction. Alive squares also trigger MIDI notes whenever they hit the edge of the grid. There are controls to the left of and above the grid that select which notes are triggered when this happens. Buffer squares simply sit still and wait for alive squares to bump into them. They appear purple on the interface. The key to creating a nice, evolving, patch in MIDI Grid is to set things up so that you have a few alive squares and buffer squares that will bump into each other as sequencer advances.

The collisions will cause the squares to change direction, which will cause the MIDI output to morph over time. It is this that will add an element of randomness to your system if you set your grid up so that no collisions occur between squares, it will never evolve at all.

To the right of the grid, there are controls for the key and scale, the speed of the sequencer, the length of the generated notes, and velocity. When changing key and scale, the changes made will be harmonically informed — you will always change to a key or scale that is harmonically adjacent to the one you just left. You must route the MIDI data to the synth of your choice. In the video provided, an example is shown using Ableton Live. While the exact method may differ slightly from DAW to DAW, it should be very similar in your program of choice.

REAKTOR opens a universe of sound. It’s a deep and powerful modular studio that sets no restrictions on creativity. Customize existing instruments, or create laidbackluke 8 years ago. Very much into starting this up with Splice and starting to share my projects with you! I’ve been known to help aspiring producers out and give advice and tips about producing. This feels like it comes as an extension of it. Now mind you, one major thing I’ve learned over the 22 years I’ve been producing, is to keep it simple.

And I do! Simple, yet effective and fat. The floor, or any of the majority producers out there, won’t care how many crash or hi-hat stems you use. Or that you tweaked 8 hours to get this certain synth designed, which still can’t compete to the multitude of amazing synth presets out there.

I make music for DJs to play out, and music to dance hard to! And my time, with all the touring, and overall hectic schedule, is super limited. No wasting it ha ha. Hope you can get some easy shortcuts looking into my session, and hope it can help you to be better and effective producer!

Some of these date back to Christmas of last year! We sat down with all of the elements and started putting the puzzle together, adding new ideas as we went. As a result, this project got CRAZY messy haha. Danny was still on his old MBP and it was struggling to handle the CPU load. So we ended up bouncing a lot of tracks down to audio, dumping them into a new session, and continuing to add plug-ins from there : And then we did that a few more times This made it really difficult to track down all the elements in their original form because of course each project was named something absurd and not helpful from an organizational standpoint but we’ve done our best to try and get some of the cool sound design and interesting composition bits together for you guys.

The majority of the project is made up of the mastering stems we prepare when we’re ready to send the track off to be finalized. It also makes it very easy for us to resample our own tracks we do all the time!

We also pulled in the different synths below the corresponding track so you can see how we designed the sound, what the MIDI is, etc. In some cases it doesn’t sound exactly like the mastering stem above it. That’s because of the multiple projects which meant that idea was bounced to audio, processed in a new project, bounced down again and then possibly processed further.
