I know nothing about these sizes I get confused. Is an aspect ratio of the same thing as x ?? Can there be an equivalent? I have no idea what these numbers mean. These aspect ratios are always Width X then Height Y, there’s many but is your normal Landscape mode, is Portrait mode, set your Project to the aspect ratio you want, if your video is made with the phone vertically it’s probably portrait mode, if your phone was horizontal when filming it’s landscape mode, when you import your video it will ask you if you want to make the project match your media, normally you would click Yes unless you have already set the project to a desired size, x for eg.

Placed the codes in and received the same message. After online research I found that Sony Vegas Studio was bought out by another company and they discontinued service for this product so even if you want to purchase, it won’t work.

Very disappointed as the product was wonderful for what I used it for. Well, I used this to install the disc-based software. If you accidentally buy the disc-based version of this software only to remembering after doing so that your computer doesn’t have a DVD drive in it, you can use this trial copy to install the full program and use your licenses to register the product.

I bought this to help edit movies that I make for a local public access. I use to like the old Microsoft Movie Maker, until they changed it with Windows 8 and above. So I switched to Movie Studio, which was suppose to be easy.

Basic layout was easy. I spent a lot of time checking reviews for the most reliable program for editing and burning blu ray disc’s. Make sure you order the Platinum version at the very least, as it includes several additional programs.

One of those is required to actually set up and burn a disc. The bare bones version of Movie Studio 13 does not include these. As for the program, it runs well on my system which is a high-end gaming system. Keep in mind that although there is a help feature, your best instructions for using it will be from Utube videos. There are several others, some of which concentrate on particular problems, but if you stick with the steep learning curve it will do all you want it to do. Quite frankly I’m just a beginner, but after banging my head against the wall and re-reading or re-watching the videos, you can get it to do what you want.

You are almost forced to edit in a linear fashion because there is no preview monitor. Double click on a clip and it goes straight to the timeline. It is not a fast interface to use to try simple things like adjust audio with keyframes. There is no use for this in a professionally written segment. I’m still trying to make it work for me but every little thing is a struggle even when I’ve looked up on YouTube what to do to make it work the way I want.

I would caution the buy of this as someone who has worked in a high market. I’m still trying to find a nice alternative to use at home for creative editing but at this point I can’t recommend this.

I traced the problems I was having with version 10 being unable to work with HD thanks to a chap in Sydney Australia that way, then bought Version Thirteen has many new features but a novice can start straightforward editing easily and move on to more advanced techniques at their own pace.

The new thing is that it is now designed for touch screens. One thing about the Sony – I had been using another well known system for a long time, which seemed to crash if you frowned at it. I have had hardly any trouble like this with the Sony. It can hit a problem, but tells you what it is usually caused by me, if I am honest but not crashing constantly for no apparent reason, leaving you confused and frustrated.

The two big and one small downside s for me for which I have subtracted one star are that the buttons on screen are just far too big, render times for final movie are unbelievably slow and titling workflow is a bit unusual.

The buttons on the screen in this version of Movie Studio are designed for Touchscreen users, so they are big, clunky and use a lot of valuable screen space. Why the application doesn’t have a ‘regular’ and ‘touchscreen’ option I will never know it does have a simple and advanced interface.

As a result, commonly used buttons don’t fit along the bottom of the screen too, and appear in a ‘config’ pop-up, which is frustrating. Renders to final movie are tortuously slow, and I have accepted that if I am going use this application regularly, my renders will need to be left running overnight and sometimes much of the next day. The circumstances in which I had to eventually buy Sony Vegas 13 weren’t really of my own volition, I was very content with my Vegas 11 for the past five years or so but then I had to update to the Windows 10 which of course meant I had to update to Sony Vegas Honestly working with Sony Vegas 13 for the first few months was a nightmare, unlike Vegas 11 which didn’t require any presetting to work I quickly found out that Sony Vegas 13 does but there’s also several minor details which bother me.

For what is supposedly an upgrade it feels like a ‘Sony-for-dummies’ program with it’s ‘Simple’ and ‘Advanced’ version – like seriously what’s the point? You will likely find that that in order for Sony not to lag, which was my biggest problem, you cannot have the preview window in it’s best setting you have to maintain it at ‘Preview Auto ‘ which means that the footage will be pixelated to an extent on the preview.

There are a ton of videos and forums discussing the lagging issues online which of course you can look at to solve your own issues with lagging if you are presented with them, however be warned that a lot of these pertain to Sony Vegas 12 more so than How I solved my issue with by going onto ‘Properties’ then under the ‘Full-resolution rendering quality’ go for the option ‘Draft’ while also maintaining ‘Preview Auto ‘ for the preview window it has solved all my lagging issues with Sony and the after-rendered video was in perfect condition with no lagging or pixelation.

Though I do believe that it is ridiculous that while Sony Vegas 11 could maintain a high-quality preview window with no lagging issues immediately upon installing that Sony Vegas 13 requires several alterations depending on your situation despite being an ‘upgrade’. However upon getting it working it’s not been too bad, if you need to go for this program because of installing Windows 10 or whatever reason it is not a bad option just keep in mind to set it to your liking quickly.

I bought this programme in early May and used it to edit my holiday video before I wrote my review to give a broad view of how well I liked this programme. I am not a novice at editing but I found the “Show my how” on screen help to be of little use and to be quite honest, without the help of an Australian guy who has posted some extreamly helpful video’s on “You Tube”, I could still be staring at a blank screen.

Once I had visited “You Tube ” a number of times and seen his full range of instructional video’s I began to enjoy the editing process and this programmes power and flexibility but working only with a timeline I found awkward and would have preferred the option of a storyboard layout.

I did find the editing screen format cramped and almost essential to have a dual screen layout to provide clarity. Although a good editing programme I think the novice should stay clear until they have attained some basic skills before the tackle this programme!
