The turn-based combat system does the job adequately, turning in an interesting feature in which characters’ spells can be cast together to produce various combo attacks. But it’s just too easy to win. This is OK though since the story spans numerous hours and tries to add variety with an abundance of minigames peppering the plot’s progress.
The good-natured simplicity and unchallenging nature also make you want to push on just to see where it takes you next. Basically, it’s the gaming equivalent of a giant tub of sweet buttered popcorn. It’s simple and less than nutritious, yet at the same time enjoyable and more-ish until you finish it and forget all about it. Meanwhile, the very first emperor Fou-Lu, who founded an aggressive country, wakes up. Both main characters have the ability to transform into dragons. In the future, their fates will intertwine.
In Breath of Fire 4, there is a semblance of achievements. Here you can find masters who allow party members to acquire new skills. For the continuation of the training, the teacher will be asked to complete tasks: inflict a certain amount of damage to the enemy at a time, play a specific number of hours, find so many things, etc.
Also, the characters learn skills right during fights. The combat is done in a traditional turn-based style. Participants in the fight can attack opponents, cast a spell or use an object. The system of interaction of the elements allows you to build magical combos.
At the end of the fight, the fighters gain experience and level up. The maximum level here is 50th. As they level up, they grow such characteristics as impact power, agility, defense and wisdom.
