My question is, how does running multiple displays at a high resolution affect what I should look for in choosing a graphics card? I currently run 3 displays on my workstation, each at x , all 3 using DisplayPort connections. And at one time I was running 4 displays, and I might return to that setup at some point. Also, I’m not sure how big of a factor this is, but it’s common for me to run Inventor on one or two displays and AutoCAD on the other. I’m completely ignorant when it comes to how graphics cards work and how to select one.

So, what should I look for in a graphics card in my situation? Can someone recommend one from that list of Certified cards?

I’ve got the application which they use to certify cards onto that list and it’s not even remotely based on performance, it’s purely based on visual fidelity so that chart is a little misleading to some. Based on what you’re saying, the Quadro M or the P will suit you perfectly although it’s expensive, it has 4 DP ports so that’ll keep you sweet, and 8GB of VRAM is going to see you good for the multi-display setup.

That’s one of the most powerful GPUs on the market but it won’t yield any visual gains over the Quadro in Inventor, your FPS to the monitors will be pretty much the same within reasonable tolerances. I’m doing a build at the moment for YouTube using a Radeon WX, that wouldn’t be suitable for your needs but the AMD cards have come a long way recently. Edit – just to clarify, I was recommending the Quadro M as at the time, the P wasn’t on the market. So in summary, my two cents, go for the P or the WX if you want a card on the certified list.

If you’re wanting a more powerful card and doing a custom build, go for the Ti. Sorry to waffle on but just for clarity, someone might say that the Ti is overkill and it is, but if you have the budget to consider a Quadro M then the Ti will be within your budget, and has the display ports to handle a 3 monitor setup.
