I opted to get the lastest version – To the people who grumble about the changes, I found that once you get past the different look it is pretty much the same to operate. Watching the tutorials which goes against my very nature, but I did it anyway helped identify the changed operations and how to do them very quickly. Things I like about the new version: I LOVE that they did away with the “video toolbox” for using effects on a clip and now you just double click on the clip and it opens above with lots of editing options.
I like that you can right click on the main track to separate video and audio and then easily delete one or the other without locking tracks it’s now way more intuitive.
I like that when you add effects to correct a clip those changes are kept on the clip in the library. Also, you can set “watchman” mode in the Library so that any new videos you put on your computer are automatically uploaded into the library and are there ready to work with.
I also like that you can drag corner handles to fade in or out rather than using the fade to black transition. And one last thing, the codec they use to upload to YouTube is much better and the videos play smoother on YouTube. The one thing I find cumbersome is having to switch from Movie to Library mode to see the transitions, titles and such but I’m getting used to that. My version are they all?
It downloaded 32 bit versions of several things and the program crashed continually. I uninstalled the whole thing, re-installed it and it is once again crash-free and I am a happy camper. Go in with an open mind and I think that past users of Studio will find that they grow to like the 16 version.

I hoped that Studio version 16 Ultimate would be a different story, but I guess I was wrong. The program has very serious difficulties dealing with mpg video files taken with a digital camera. I have both a Sony digital camera for stills and videos, and a Sony Digital video camcorder. I used them both recently for a wedding, and uploaded the videos to the new Version 16 Ultimate.
It became apparent immediately there was a problem rendering the mpg files from the digital camera. Any effects change to an mpg clip performed on the timeline resulted in a red render line.
