Did you update Logic Pro Did you install any new Apps on your Mac? Did you add a new Hard Drive? How is it formatted? Good luck and let us know how you got on Aug 13, PM in response to Ricardo In response to Ricardo haha your right, ridiculous. You should not be getting this message, even using internal drives for moderate projects. Press the Go button. Remove the com. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro.
You folks aren’t doing anything foolish like trying to run high sample rates are you? Obviously my system drive will stay Journaled, as will my Time Machine drive. I will just reformat the external audio drive with journaling off. Nothing to do with my preferences I’m sure. God knows they have been trashed many times for various reasons No control surface to worry about. I purchased my new interface a couple of weeks ago and downloaded and installed the most recent drivers for it.
There was nothing about them specifically being compatible with But I’d assume a company like Focusrite wouldn’t have sketchy drivers affecting all mac users. I just downloaded Play v4. As for configuration, perhaps showing my naievity here but I had no idea it required any tweaking, assumed it should just automatically work as is.
So it’d have to be a no on configuring it if it requires special settings to run smoothly on Logic. Even so, to fail with only one instrument loaded into it is embarrassingly poor.
There were no plug-ins active and no busses running. Literally One track of Audio and A multi-output instance of play loaded with one instrument and 3 software instrument tracks attached. Attempting to record one midi line underneath the audio track and I get the error at random points throughout the process. Haven’t been able to get to the end of the track yet. Thanks for the link, I had a read through but couldn’t see anything on there which was applicable to my working set-up.
It happens at a random point in the project rather than directly upon pressing play. I usually get a minute or two into the piece then it’ll do it. I have read that Logic does this the first time a new instrument or region is introduced because it hasn’t had a chance to load it into the memory yet.
Every time I got an error I’d save, and relaunch, so perhaps this explains why I haven’t been able to move past it, because I haven’t really given Logic a chance to run through the piece more than once or twice, before closing it and starting over.
Sep 3, AM. Hi Pancenter, I was under the impression that a larger buffer size increases performance but introduces latency. As I’m not experiencing any latency but am experiencing frequent errors I thought I’d put it up to to see if that changed anything, but it didn’t.
I was still getting the errors with a lower buffer size though. As I mentioned earlier I’m not using Space Designer or any other plug-ins. It’s quite bizarre. Going to have another bash today and see if it’s magically resolved itself over night. You’re correct but it does depend on the drivers for the audio hardware, occasionally a smaller buffer is more efficient..
The Focusrite is plugged directly into a USB port correct, not a hub? If it starts happening again I will do a cold re boot. I also had a systems engineer Mac tell me today that I should also try and create a new user and open projects from the new user to see if there are corrupt preferences.
Will keep you posted thanks. Mandubien Posted November 10, Posted November 10, Hi there! I’m gonna try to delete any Logic preferences to see if there is any improvement. MBP i5 Atlas Posted November 11, Posted November 11, Sometimes an SMC reset does help Posted November 12, Having the same problem here.
Just started within the last week as well. AntoshkajaF Posted November 13, Posted November 13, When working on a Logic Pro project with a lot of audio tracks, software instruments, or plug-ins, a system overload alert might appear that interrupts playback or recording.
System overloads can occur when your Mac doesn’t have enough processing power to play back or record audio. Use the techniques in this article to avoid system overloads.
Each CPU core in your Mac has its own meter. On Mac computers with processors that support Hyper-Threading, two meters are shown for each core. Watch the meters as the project plays back, noting when the meters are full. When a meter is full, the CPU or the disk has reached the limit of its processing capability.
System overload alerts can appear when any of these meters peak. You can use this information to make adjustments to your project or your system configuration. If you’re recording audio and not software instruments, you can monitor your audio directly from the source.
If your project doesn’t include automation, or the automation doesn’t need to be sample accurate, you can reduce the CPU load by turning off Sample Accurate Automation.
If your project does include automation, choose the option that includes only the parameters you’re automating.

By RealgreyAugust 10, in Logic Pro. More noticeable with bigger project files. Is that possible? How would I prevent that from happening? We have a project recording studio and used logic. Any help overlaod be greatly appreciated. Logic Pro X Thanks for your reply My hard drive is a Lacie 2big 6TB.
Slwo yes, it is divided into a partitions It is connected via TB to my mac pro I don’t have it configured as a raid, it’s really 2 3TB drives side by side. The drive I record to does have partitions. Is that a problem? Thank you приведенная ссылка for your questions.
Hard drive spec. You can try setting the hard drives to never go to sleep but the controller chip logic pro x disk too slow or system overload free the enclosure may not respond to that setting. Use your system dsik as your current project drive to see if the issue disappear when not involving the external drive.
You can always move finished projects to your 6TB to free up space once you are done. Overloadd mini 2. Great suggestion I will give that a try. Can I try the same solution you suggested to the topic starter by just placing my projects on an external ssd?
You could do that or you could change the internal drive in your current Mac. You do not need any dedicated SSD to record to. Put in the largest SSD system drive you can buy and record all your projects to it. Use the Lacie as an external. Sounding like. Maybe it’s my luck. If I had a logic pro x disk too slow or system overload free Mac pro. Logic pro x disk too slow or system overload free would not use any external drive.
Guys – if freezing a lot of tracks usually adobe photoshop cc und lightroom cc (jahresabo) free care of my play back problems – does that hint at what the likely culprit is form logic pro x disk too slow or system overload free list Eric listed? Would I be able tlo upload a project that often gives me playback problems with tracks unfrozen and see how it runs on your work iMac triplets? Since you seem to have a system very close to mine. Hi and to chime in, I believe that Eric is right about the lacie, and it doing to sleep, there are technical things you can do to adjust this, I would suggest, first if there are any drivers update them, if there is any firmware for the drive update it.
Speak to lacie ask them if there is any way you can use a hdparams style of app too to adjust the sleep time. Also and concurrently, load the project and resave it, making all the audio a part of the project.
The reason is you want to load the project on the local disk drive and also the lacie. Test each one out while you have the “Activity Monitor” app, open and on the disc tab, what is using all the disc activity, is it logic or is it something else.
Try doing the same thing on the lacie too. Also check you ‘energy’ preferences, is logic pro x disk too slow or system overload free set to put the disk’s to logic pro x disk too slow or system overload free Then look at loading the project waiting 10 min, then trying playback, does this makes any difference in either case for either the disk or the lacie. You really have to quite methodical and rigorous in doing this test, but when you speak to lacie, clear data like this might well encourage them to advise you better, and let them know you have checked out all the possibilities.

Jfever, Thanks for your reply Eric Cardenas Posted August fres, Eric Cardenas Great suggestion RoyFan Posted August 10, Any luck? Logic Pro X Version I’m away from the studio currently, I’ll know logiv I’ll mark the conversation resolved after I test. Realgrey Posted August 11, Posted August 11, Eric Cardenas was correct So I think I’ve narrowed the problem to the Lacie.
I ran “First Aid” system utility app and it does seem to be performing a bit better. I guess the conclusion is a dedicated SSD to record to. Rfee to all. Much appreciated. Eric Cardenas Posted August 11, You’re most welcome!
RoyFan Posted August 11, Posted August 12, Eric Cardenas Posted August 12, Eric, is a dedicated external SSD good enough? I’m not that strong at “configing” drives Doye Posted August 12, Use the Lacie as an external backup but do not leave it hooked up whilst recording. Sounding like a helicopter. Avoid inserting effect plug-ins on individual tracks in a project. You can also optimize Alchemy for improved performance. Configure your system Follow these guidelines when configuring your system for use with Logic Pro: Quit other apps when using Logic Pro. Make sure your Mac has the maximum amount of RAM, especially if your projects usually include many plug-ins or multiple instances of the EXS24 sampler.
Save projects with high track counts to a dedicated storage device such as an external USB-C hard drive or an external solid-state drive SSD instead of saving projects to the system drive of your Mac. Learn more about which file system is best for you. Choose any other additional options to streamline your workflow. Choose Custom from the pop-up menu in the LCD section.
Double-click the CPU meter to open it in a new, expanded window. Process Buffer Range: Set this option to Large.
If you are using ReWire, set this option to Playback Mode. Learn more about setting the Multithreading preference to optimize performance. Have you started using a different SI or FX plugin or plugins.. More or different FX for example.. Did you install a new version of a plugin? Is all your software legal? Have to ask because some people install all kinds of illegal plugins and whatever else.. Have you looked at the System logs to see if anything is happening out of the ordinary when you get these messages?
Have you looked at OS X’s Activity monitor to see if any app or routine is kicking in hard when you get this issue? Basically, you need to think about and look for what changed I believe i solved my problem Logic only runs in 64bit I probley changed it around the same time i started getting problems because some plugs run better in 32 over 64 in maschine.
I might start checking all the other plugs to see if I can make this change. Iv never really taken much notice of my CPU usage Im guessing this is normal? Also any advise on harddrive setup I’ve done this for years btw.
Yes, format your external drive with journaling off. The option IS available in disk utility all you have to do is hold down one of the modifier keys for it to appear in the menu. I forget. I think it’s as much the operating system as much as anything else, did you notice the “Disk too Slow or Overload” message not too long after upgrading to I do realize the “disk too slow, overload” problem has been around, well It can mean so many things, It can be an overload of the internal bus system so that a tiny bit of data doesn’t make it where it’s supposed to on time.
Often it’s plugins like Space Designer that tie up the bus, not only does it take a lot of cpu to do the convolution math it has to pass the data through as well. Journaling only manages disk integrity with files under 20Mb, if something happens to the audio drive chances are journaling won’t be able to do much, if anything.
Journaling is mainly used on servers where track of many small files some of them open needs the added integrity. I’ve never used journaling never seen any problems, the drives don’t work as hard. Aug 14, AM. Most are related to the processing power of your computer and to the amount of information it has to process at a time. Here are some of the most common causes :.
Similar to MIDI instruments, audio effect plugins can be very heavy to run, and an average project can easily have hundreds of effect instances. You can improve your performance by using certain effects such as reverbs and delays as sends , which we will explain how to do further down the article.
When you record external instruments , your computer must take care of a lot of stuff to make everything work seamlessly. We will explain what this configuration parameter is and how you can set it up correctly later in this article.
Plus, there are often processes running in the background such as software updaters and widgets that you may even not know about. As the Logic Pro X system overload issue is fairly common, solving and preventing it is pretty simple through some easy steps. In this app, you can see and close everything that is active on your computer, as well as filter it by RAM and CPU usage to help you find the most demanding processes.
This is one of the best, most effective solutions to the system overload problem, as MIDI instruments take much more processing power than audio tracks. LogicPro I have the exact same problem on my MBP. Logic was fine weeks ago, and now I can’t run any project smoothly, even without a single plugin! Which version of Logic are you trying to run?
