What comes with Visual Studio is pathetic. But given nothing has happen in this area since I don’t think Microsoft will start listening to their customers any time soon. Ken, I am suffering the same issue you are.
Just purchased VISIO in order to use it to create ERD’s by reverse engineering our database, but Database Engineering menu option nor any of the essential database templates crowsfeet, etc. Paul, I downloaded the free version of Visual Studio, and it is and that feature is not present in the free version.
I am experimenting with a free-ware that looks promising called schemaspy. It’s a pain because it isn’t a canned package, but it looks like someone did a nice job of creating this freeware. I wish I had an old copy of MS Visio to downgrade back to that version, because the Database Reengineering feature was the best reasons to buy Visio.
I would love to hear guidance from an Actual Microsoft Technical employee to let us know if that feature is in any current Microsoft Product.
