I know that the product is no longer under support, but at least I should be able to reinstall it using the same keys that were working on the old hard drive.

Originally, I installed from a download from MS. That file is no longer available so I had to resort to getting the ISO from a torrent. Not the best of places, but since MS is not longer supplying the file, I went to the next best option that I could find. This thread is locked. It has been working on this computer for nearly 10 months. And now it can’t activate. Just weird. In reply to jq85’s post on October 12, Like it was already activated and registered.

I assumed that the shop I bought the laptop from used a valid product key and everything was fine. It’s just suddenly start popping up for a product key like a week ago. Right now I am using it as normal, I can still open and edit my documents.

The MS windows update installs a validation tool from time to time and if that tool identifies an illegal version it is then blocked. Was this reply helpful?

Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. I have the same problem. I got the red banner on top with Product activation failed. I bought this laptop in March this year and was using Office fine until about a week ago when it started to ask for the product key. How did this happen? Does it affect my work or how long am I able to use it? The problem is that I bought this laptop in my home country and now I am in a different country continuing my studies therefore it’s hard for me to go to the shop again and ask the seller about it.

Pro Plus is a very limited distribution bundle! The only real “3-pack” of Office is Home and Student. If you have a 3 pack of Pro Plus there are 3 possible scenarios I know of for this type of error:.

First, you do have a legal license for Pro Plus. In that case you have to do a phone activation. When you phone in, don’t reply to the prompts until they give you the option of talking to a live service rep.
