Losing these games is a disaster and while they made a needed move it’s not enough.

UMass is almost certainly going to lose this game today. One more to go: let’s get it. Just the worst possible start to the second half for UMass in literally all three phases of the game.

At the half: pic. I think the bigger question is would UMass target him if he were available? Should they target him? Merriweather is the primary offensive weapon but you need to be able to pass too. UMass did good work to be in position to get some points out of the end of that half, they simply cannot screw it up like they did. That’s unacceptable, inexplicable execution for the FBS level and could very easily end up costing them when the game is over.

Olson is mostly off today and when he’s on his receivers have dropped a few too. UMass’ biggest issue offensively right now is the “give it to Merriweather” offense works for like a drive and a half and then when the defense keys on it the Minutemen don’t have the talent or ability at QB or anywhere else to make teams pay in play action or the passing game.

Maine takes a lead over UMass on back-to-back TD drives and the Minutemen need to rise to the occasion here and stop beating themselves. Maine puts together a good TD drive making it look too easy of you’re UMass Coverage in the secondary has to be better. Starting off strong, men! Like that Michael Fitzgerald is getting significant snaps today but UMass should be targeting him more We haven’t seen much of Fitzgerald since his fumble week one against Pittsburgh.

The Flames will be strutting in after a win while the Minutemen will be stumbling in from a defeat. UMass came up short against the Eastern Michigan Eagles last week, falling Massachusetts’ loss came about despite a quality game from QB Gino Campiotti , who accumulated 87 passing yards in addition to rushing for one TD and yards.

Campiotti hadn’t helped his team much against the Temple Owls two weeks ago, so this was a nice turnaround for him. Meanwhile, Liberty netted a victory over the Old Dominion Monarchs last week. The Flames’ defense was a presence as well, as it got past Old Dominion’s offensive line to sack the quarterback four times for a total loss of 14 yards. It was a group effort with four guys contributing. The Minutemen are the clear underdogs, so they’re hoping it’s the size of the fight that determines this one.

Those who got lucky with them against the spread last week might want to hold off on placing bets this time since the team has yet to string together back-to-back wins against the spread. UMass is now while Liberty sits at a mirror-image A pair of defensive numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: UMass comes into the game boasting the 20th fewest passing yards allowed per game in the nation at As for Liberty, they enter the contest with 17 sacks, good for eighth best in the nation.

Massachusetts football

NFHS Football Rule Changes and Supporting Material Important Football Information Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association.
