Quarterback Jaren Hall leads a top passing offense that averages The Cougars’ pair of point scoring outputs have certainly signaled prime operations for Hall, who threw for yards and four touchdowns against Wyoming before adding yards and three more touchdowns on Thursday. Hall was quite balanced in the passing game against Wyoming, finding eight different receivers with seven of the eight tallying more than one catch.<\/p>\n

In fact, at least eight Cougars up to 12 against South Florida have caught at least one pass in all but one game this season, with last week’s win over Utah State seven different pass-catchers the lone exception. Leading the way against the Aggies was Kody Epps, who notched a team-high five catches for 86 yards and a touchdown, his first time pacing the team in yards after fellow freshman Chase Roberts had led the team in the first three games of the season.<\/p>\n

BYU’s running game, however, has not been balanced. The Cougars are middle-of-the-pack nationally with The Cougars rushed for yards in Week 1 against South Florida but were held under in each of the next two weeks, before tallying and against Wyoming and Utah State, respectively, in the last two weeks. However, the Fighting Irish still find themselves alone in the FBS in that category, as every other team nationally has collected at least two takeaways. This will be a tough week for continuing that momentum, though, as BYU has lost just one turnover all season \u2014 a Hall interception in Week 1 \u2014 and the Cougars have otherwise kept control of possession in their last four games.<\/p>\n

A point of hope for Notre Dame’s defense, though, is up front along the defensive line. Notre Dame’s offense appears to have found its footing, especially as the Fighting Irish scored 45 points in Week 4 against North Carolina \u2014 despite being held scoreless in the first quarter \u2014 after mustering just 45 total points combined across the previous two weeks. This summer line obviously did not factor in the Irish getting pushed around by Marshall in mid-September.<\/p>\n

Notre Dame finding some momentum along both sides of the line at North Carolina is better than the alternative, but it is not as definitive a moment as that running-game performance suggests on paper. Three running backs each totaling more yards from scrimmage stands out, but again, it was against the Tar Heels.<\/p>\n

Freeman spent some of this week lamenting the possession or two each half in which the Irish give up a long drive. That may not sound like a lot, but it is conservatively 20 points, and put some emphasis there on conservative.
