Reposition and resize as needed.

Designs that will be saved together need to be grouped. Once your designs are ready click on the Artboards Tool on the left side panel. The Artboard options will appear on the top left of the screen. Click on one of the designs and next to Size, choose Selection.

This will create an Artboard the same size as the selected object. Next, click Insert Artboard. Repeat this for all of your objects.

If you find that one of your designs disappears when creating the Artboards, this is due to overlapping. The Artboard will cut off anything that overlaps on the selected object.

To see this more clearly, click on Outline View Mode at the top. It will show everything as an outline, in this case the edges of the images. Move the designs a little further apart to fix this. Step 2 – Rename the Artboards As each grouped layer is given an Artboard, the groups are renamed. These grouped layers will be exported as documents. To make them easier to identify we will give each layer a new name.

To this, go the Layers Panel on the right and click on the layer name so it is highlighted in blue. Rename the layer and press Enter. This will also be the file name.

Do this for all of the grouped layers. This can be found at the top left of the screen. Here you will find a dedicated workspace for exporting Artboards, objects and more in various formats. Click on the Export Persona.

The export options will be on the right hand side. The designs we are exporting are referred to as Export Slices. These are found under the Slices panel.

If not already open, click on Slices. By default all of the layers or Slices are selected with a checked box. When all boxes are checked, those items will be exported to the same folder. You may want to save certain items together in another folder.

To do this, only check the boxes of the items you want exported. For this tutorial all boxes have been left checked. Click on the white arrow next to one of the Slices. Clicking on PNG will open the options menu where you can select a different format.

Affinity – Professional Creative Software.Affinity Designer Help

Business cards are a physical printed card containing all the essential contact information. When designing a business card it needs to fit certain specifications for it to be printed correctly. In most cases when a client requests a business card design, you need to create a standard size business card. Affinity Designer makes it very easy for you to create print designs with bleed. So, this guide will be very easy to follow along. When we give artworks for print, the printer prints it on a large sheet of paper which is then trimmed down to the size we want.

If there is a misalignment while cutting, it will result in your artwork having a white margin on a side or two. Having a bleed allows you to avoid the white margin, and run artwork to the edge of a page. From there select the following options. I will explain each option.

Like me, if you want to create two sides for the business card, click Artboard Tool and set size to Document Size and click Insert Artboard to get two artboards with identical settings. If sizes and margins are different on your new artboard, you can click the Document Setup button and set the sizes. You can then use this template every time you need to create a Business card for your clients.

If you have created a two-sided Business card, save both sides separately you can do this by setting Area to the artboard on the export dialog. Choose PDF on the export dialog and check include bleed.

Click on More button to open Export options dialog. This is where you set print options. Make sure to check Include printers marks and choose all or some of it depending on what you want. If you export through the Export Persona, the process is similar. Export options are on a Studio Panel. Click here to Download Affinity Designer template. I have attached the final template file at the end of this article. In this guide, we will be creating a 3.

Why do we need a bleed and safe area anyway? Setting up a document You only need to configure a few settings at Document Setup to get you started. I don’t know why it shows up otherwise when you download the file. Another issue I came across is, as you can see on Chelcod’s export. There’s some weirdness going on. The clearest place is the top right corner, at the word “Merritt”. Somehow Designer cuts the background in 2 different files with a different level of brightness.

The only way I discovered to fix both issues, I think, was to flatten the entire document. Luckily the printers didn’t require layers, but some do. Gabe The reason why it’s so large is because it’s for a big street panel. Are there maybe size restrictions for Publisher I need to be aware of? I appreciate the effort. But as mentioned, it still has this weird brightness issue as mentioned. At least now I now that wasn’t specific to my software. The reason why it’s so large is because it’s for a big street panel.

Not really. The size limit is x px. Most of the times we see such large documents at large DPI is because “bigger is better”, not because one actually needs that point density. Gabe Exactly, I didn’t receive a proper response from the printshop as at what DPI they would print that, so it is!

I was just wondering how the size comment was related to my issue. This usually happens when your Affinity document doesn’t have bleed setup – which ‘greys out’ the Bleed option in the Export dialog. I’ve tested this here and I was able to see this behaviour with no bleed in my document, then I enabled bleed and returned to the export dialog, where this could be reselected.

If possible, can you please provide a screenshot of your ‘Document Setup’ dialog, with the Bleed values showing? One of the selling points of Affinity Designer is its ability to mix vector and raster graphics, however if you want an SVG to work properly in other programs and to be fully SVG any raster elements have to be removed.
