Details required :. Cancel Submit. The Guest account is disabled by default because it’s a security risk. It shouldn’t be used. If you want to enable it anyway, search the web for instructions.<\/p>\n

Open an elevated command prompt. Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys and Press Enter at the same time. This will run the command as an administrator, and you will see a black window open up with a flashing command prompt.<\/p>\n

If you’re using Windows 10, version and later, you can add security questions as you’ll see in step 4 under Create a local user account. With answers to your security questions, you can reset your Windows 10 local account password.<\/p>\n

Not sure which version you have? You can check your version. In some versions of Windows you’ll see Other users. Select I don’t have this person’s sign-in information , and on the next page, select Add a user without a Microsoft account. Enter a user name, password, or password hint\u2014or choose security questions\u2014and then select Next. Open Settings and create another account.<\/p>\n

Note: If you choose an account that shows an email address or doesn’t say “Local account”, then you’re giving administrator permissions to a Microsoft account, not a local account.<\/p>\n

Under Account type , select Administrator , and then select OK. Took a while to figure out on how to log it off. It’s sad I have to create a fake visitor account. I try to make it convenient but without guest account, I will have to add a sticky to my laptop. And that’s more of a threat than the reason they choose not to have a guest account option. Having a simple Guest Account is important, to separate it from the login account. It would had been thoughtful if MS went ahead and did their family E-mail, name, code thing — and still allow the flexibility of adding the simple Guest Account.<\/p>\n

I have various people from time to time, who use my computer with printer. It would be insane for me to have different confusing accounts to deal with. I want for the system to work for me, not me having to work the system. I hope a people oriented IT person who reads this will take this into consideration. I appreciate the opportunity, created by MS, to make these comments.<\/p>\n

I have just spent good few hours to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 10 only to realise there is no option to have Guest account. This is a must for me as my friends and family use this future to use my computer.<\/p>\n

However cannot locate this anywhere. I do not want to create account for my friends and definately not for my 5 year old kids. Does anyone know the work around? No option when I click start and type Guest. Cannot work out how to access group policy as keep putting me in standard windows 10 style option. Was this reply helpful?<\/p>\n

Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. Windows 10 is not done why would they give out an operating system that’s not done, and why is it free probably because they want us to find the bugs and report them.<\/p>\n

Same thing here. It seems that via command prompt Guest activated, but it never appears to login list Administrator account activating works fine and it appears to login list without problems. I did the same thing. I created a local “Guest User” account as a work around. The steps are:. Threats include any threat of suicide, violence, or harm to another.<\/p>\n

Any content of an adult theme or inappropriate to a community web site. Any image, link, or discussion of nudity. Any behavior that is insulting, rude, vulgar, desecrating, or showing disrespect.<\/p>\n

Any behavior that appears to violate End user license agreements, including providing product keys or links to pirated software. Unsolicited bulk mail or bulk advertising. Any link to or advocacy of virus, spyware, malware, or phishing sites. Any other inappropriate content or behavior as defined by the Terms of Use or Code of Conduct.<\/p>\n

You can’t re-create an account named ‘Guest’ because technically it still exists. It’s just not activated. See link below. I don’t know if you will be able to recover the Windows 8 stuff you lost in the old Guest account, but you can try to re-activate the old ‘Guest’ account using the Administrator Command Prompt.<\/p>\n

In reply to Marcel Arnold’s post on July 30, I tried that but when I log on there is no guest option. In reply to KiranPoudel’s post on July 31, So I made local account without password “Visitor” and hopefully it works like I think.<\/p>\n

I had to name it Guest1. None of the things saved under the Guest account in Window 8 imported. We can’t get to all the stuff all the family members saved there including precious photos! In reply to GertieGirl01’s post on August 2, Do you have an external or cloud backup drive that would have a copy of the lost files?<\/p>\n

I highly recommend you abandon the practice of saving anything under a Guest account. I did exactly that but I kept on getting an error below and it refused to allow me to sign in. Pierre – Topeka. This site in other languages x.<\/p>\n
