It stopped after one of the Mountain Lion updates.

I’ve made sure anything related to VSL has permission to receive comms in the firewall’s advanced preferences, but no matter what I do, the message pops up every time I open VE Pro Mac Mini Server i7 2. Hence, what is not surrounded by uncertainty cannot be the truth. That might be the source because OSC listens on ports for connections. I don’t use the Mac firewall so not sure on what the configuration would be.

However, you can monitor outgoing connections as well. How can an average user utilize outgoing traffic data?

Let’s illustrate with some examples. From these examples, it’s clear that a two-way firewall offers protection from both inbound and outgoing traffic.

They can help identify the activity of malware if it’s installed and running , but they’re less concerned about security than privacy. Many third-party firewall apps provide control over both incoming and outgoing connections. We discuss a few popular ones below. LuLu is a free, open source firewall that aims to block outgoing traffic unless it’s explicitly approved by the user.

Once installed, it will alert you about new or unauthorized attempts to create an outgoing network connection. Click the Allow or Block button to handle the connection. The alert window displays a process icon and code-signing status of an app. The built-in VirusTotal integration can help you check if an app is malicious or not. Along with it, you can see the hierarchy of the process this helps you to understand the main culprit process , process details, and more.

Download: LuLu Free. Radio Silence is the simplest firewall app for your Mac. After installation, the app automatically runs in the background without any menu bar icon or other visual indicators.

Navigate to the Firewall tab and click the Block Application button. This makes it unsuitable for applications like Motion and makes me question how future-proof this machine will be when Snow Leopard with OpenCL comes out. I think a machine with “Pro” in the title should be appropriately-specced to run Apple’s professional applications. Although the specifications are similar to the base 15″ model and will therefore also result in limited ProApp usage and questionable OpenCL performance in Snow Leopard, I don’t have a problem with that because this is something that was never there in the first place – this is not something Apple has taken away from us.

There’s also some good news – Apple seems to have paid attention to the protests over the lack of FireWire ports in the previous generation and has now restored a single FireWire port. The models are available up to 2. The high-end 13″ model is identical to the base 15″ model in specification, which reiterates my opinion that the base 15″ model is underpowered. It’s also had a huge price cut and there is now only a few hundred dollars difference between the regular hard disk and SSD versions.

Snow Leopard Apple demoed a few features but as the main changes were under the hood, these will probably be explored in more detail during the rest of the week. Simple editing and uploading to popular video sharing sites built-in essentially QuickTime Pro for free. Yes, you read that correctly. It comes out in September, a month before Windows 7. This was one of my favorite announcements of the day – why?

One notable feature is video and audio tags. These allow you to play supported video and audio content directly in the browser without the need for Flash, Silverlight or other technologies. Plugins are always slower and more resource-hungry than native support for a particular feature, and open standards are always preferable.

These changes have also made it across to MobileSafari, and it means Flash on the iPhone is even less likely than before not a bad thing. It is considerably faster, features a 3MP digital camera, can record video, has a magnetometer compass , 7. One other notable feature is called Find My iPhone. Mobile Me users can log in and locate their lost iPhone on a map, send messages to it or make it emit a sound so that it can be located even if it is on silent.

If the phone has been stolen, you can remotely wipe your personal data from it. This is a pretty nice feature. Final Cut Studio 3 This was missing in action, leading us to wonder when it will be released. Will it be released in conjunction with Snow Leopard – who knows? All I know is that Avid and Adobe CS4 have edged ahead and are looking mighty tempting, and Nuke is looking like a great replacement for Shake. When it comes to making your living, you can’t wait around forever for software that you don’t know anything about in terms of new features and may not even end up being released.

You have to buy what you need when you need it – Apple needs to realize this. So in conclusion, there’s some great stuff there for consumers but professional users appear to have been sidelined once again. Although it’s just a series of numbers, it is a useful indicator of just how much the applications have been updated.

All in all it’s a minor nuisance, but it has that awful “fingernails on blackboard” quality. You sure? How about this time? Thanks for the points PM Friday; March 28, User profile for user: Krakatos Krakatos. I had another problem entirely. The logic board on my MacBook Pro was replaced, and since I picked it up this afternoon, I was unable to connect to my Airport at home. I kept getting a self-assigned IP for my Airport connection. I would also get occasional prompts to allow incoming connections for mdnsresponder and configd.

Well, somehow I stumbled upon your post, and deleted all of the apps on my firewall list. Back in business! Now I’m connecting just fine. I still don’t really understand why, but I’m glad I’m running again! User profile for user: cintra2 cintra2. The former prevents iChat screen sharing, and the latter prevents syncing of iTunes Music. I suspect Apple still has a problem with this firewall mode, and sincerely hope it will be fixed in I am not sure how this effects iChat.

Are you saying these are the two problems you have on your Mac at the moment? I don’t quite see how they are connected unless Syncopation is using some odd ports possibly iChats or is creating a VPN link a subnet over ethernet or wireless between the computers. It occurs when running screen sharing over iChat between iMac and Air. The Bonjour account is active, and iChat enabled at login on both machines. On first attempt to screen share, the connection is not successful.

My solution is to quit iChat on the iMac and reopen it. This immediately results in the message “Do you want the application “iChatAgent. Syncopation is used less frequently as I don’t buy from iTunes every day, but is similar in that syncopation. The difference is that I can’t remember being asked if I want to add the app to the firewall more than perhaps the first time. I’m not saying Syncopation has any contact with iChat, just that its entry in the latter table doesn’t guarantee connection, like iChatAgent.

It doesn’t use VPN btw, and Internet sharing is not enabled. It’s only just started showing up pretty much since installing the 64Bit betas from Spectrasonics. Any ideas? My guess is that this is because spectrasonics’ products can be updated from the plugins’ GUI, while being instantiated in the host Logic. Mac mini 3. When I realised there was an 8th instalment I started to ask myself the same question.. I had no idea. That simply means Omnisphere is ready to accept connections from the soon-to-be-released “Omni Live” iPhone app.

Cheers for the replies here btw! That makes sense about the iphone app actually and thanks for the tips. For some reason I was not alerted after the first reply so I forgot about this thread. I am having the same issue. Why is it that even with the preference set off Omnisphere appears to be doing something to trigger this dialog. I updated to Logic 9 yesterday. Prior to that, I only had to set the dialog once with Live 7, and once with Logic 8.

I tried with Logic 9. I went into Omnisphere and turned the pref ON and saved and quited from Logic. Came back in, went back into Omnisphere and turned the pref OFF and saved just to make sure that bit was flipped where ever it needed to be flipped and still Omnisphere triggers the dialog. I wouldn’t worry about it too much to be honest.

I started this thread and I’ve been in contact with Spectrasonics about it but never really got much back from them. They saw the screen shot from above so I’m sure they’ll sort it.

Turn your firewall back on and just press allow! The button in the system is not doing what it should I guess as trillian does not seem to suffer with this problem, but the iphone app works well with them!

And so you are pressing Allow every time? Not running a firewall is a bad idea, I know, but I’m having a hard time convincing myself to deal with this dialog every time I run Logic. And it would be every time because Omnisphere is my main plugin. Yeah, I don’t get the problem with Trilian either. I took a look in the system page for Trilian and I didn’t see an equivalent “Trilian Live” pref.

So I just assumed that functionality wasn’t present in Trilian, hence the reason it isn’t causing the dialog to pop up. But then it appears from what you said that the iphone app works with both As I said before, beyond a possible issue with Omnisphere, there’s an issue here between Logic and OS X that is causing this dialog to appear every time. But when that would be fixed, who knows? It’s more likely that if there is an issue with Omnisphere the good folks at Spectrasonics might get to it first.

It does seem like that pref isn’t actually switching off what ever code they are running that tickles the connections dialog. I’ll see if I have any luck posting the issue with their support. Yes, it’s every time I load a project with Omnisphere in. Not sure it happens when loading the plugin for the first time to be honest, I don’t think it does.

I think because you can load the Trillian library in Omnisphere then Trillian does not have this functionality, so I was mistaken earlier. I can switch between patches in live mode from my iphone and it works quite well, although it’s something I would not use at present. It’s a pretty minor glitch and nothing to worry about I would say. Synopsis, for me at least is that the option in the system page to turn it off does not function correctly.

Spectrasonics are usually pretty good at solving things quickly, and it may even be an OSX thing but I wouldn’t know for sure.

Let’s see what It’s just another mouse click as far as I’m concerned and thats it. Just curious. Did you upgrade from Logic 8? If so, did you have Logic 8 on your system to begin with? I would have liked to have installed the Logic 9 upgrade on to a clean system, but that wasn’t possible. So I had to install it onto my system which I had previously installed Logic 8 on to.

When I did that, and ran Software Update to get the latest version of Logic 9 I now have three versions of Logic in my applications folder:. I’m just wondering if this is somehow confusing OS X. I added all 3 to the firewall dialog pane, but I still can’t get the dialog not to appear when I run Logic Pro 9.

I’m just bringing this up because when I ran into this problem I Googled it and searched here on LPH and figured loads of people would have the same issue. But it doesn’t seem to be the case. So I’m not sure what is unique about our situation. There is indeed a problem turning off the Omni Live service in Omnisphere 1. That is fixed in the upcoming 1. For details on 1.

In the meantime, you should be able to allow Logic to accept connections instead of entirely disabling the firewall. If that’s not working, then it sounds like a problem in the OSX firewall. I know this thread is old, but Omnisphere is already up to 1.

Has anyone ever discovered a solution? As long as you don’t need the OmniTR app Anyone else have this problem? I started seeing this recently, but I don’t own any spectrasonic stuff. Just 1 instance of Sampletank It’s annoying, more so when I don’t know what is causing it and it seems to show up at random interval. You can post now and register later.
